    will avi_io work with a hauppauge wintv-pvr 150 b/c i cant get it to work

    The PVR 150 is hardware MPEG, isn't it ?

    Yes, MPEG only. You can use some other programs like Sage TV or similar to capture, but it will still be MPEG. There are possible methods to get it to use AVI, but not really worth the effort. It does MPEG fairly well for the price.
