  1. I have a couple of clips that are vp62 avi and I would like to convert them to mpg or even regular divx/xvid avi so I could convert them from there. I tried mencoder, a command line utility I use for converting mkv to avi, but it seems to have a problem openning the codec dll for vp6 (and it is the right version vp6.2). Any suggestions for an alternative or even explicit instructions for mencoder would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have the dll in your codec dir? No dll, no decoding since it is a proprietary format. dll is just the standard VfW codec. If installed, you can convert the avi via any app that uses VfW. VP6 also shiped with a dshow decoder.

  3. Thank you for the responses.

The correct codec dll is in the mencoder's codec folder. And the correct version. I even re downloaded in case the dll was damaged somehow, still no dice.

    Code:
    videocodec vp6
      info "On2 VP6 Personal Codec"
      status working
      fourcc VP60,VP61,VP62
      driver vfwex
      dll "vp6vfw.dll"
      out YUY2
      out BGR32,BGR24
From mencoder's codec.conf. Still, VDub would work if you have VP6.2 installed. I still have the last free version backed up somewhere. Pitty On2 couldn't make their decoders backwards compatible, so you could just install VP7.
