Sony V505DXP with Matshita UJDA755 DVD-ROM/CR RW drive

Was able to play vCD (video CDs) from Asia without problems.
Did an Autoupdate for Windows XP Professional. Received a number of patches, including some SP2 items.

Now the computer does NOT recognize a vCD disk. Drive spins on and on and the computer hangs up.

The computer CAN still play music CDs as well as DVD movies.

I have updated the firmware for the drive from the Sony site.
I have InterVideo 4, WMP 10 and Herosoft's Hero 3000. None of these can play the disk because the computer gets hung up.

I believe this is a software issue related to my update.

The vCD disk does not have an Autoplay file. The MPEG files have .dat as extensions. I cannot associate the files with a player program because the drive just spins and the comuter freezes.

Unable to do a System Restore.

    Would appreciate any suggestion.

    Uninstall the update(s).

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=uninstall+xp+automatic+update&meta= might assist, or try going to the windowsupdate URL and you should be able to look at previous installation items and roll them back.
    If in doubt, Google it.
