hi, i want to put avi star trek episodes on a video CD. I used Xilisoft DVD platinum to convert it to video CD format, but they won't play on my DVD player that sais it can play video CDs? I read somewhere that you have to de-interlace them?? please help.

  2. Try to write the exact process that you are doing. I have no idea where you are going wrong.

De-interlacing is not an issue here.

Xilisoft DVD platinum will convert it in one step. a little too easy?

  4. I've never heard of Xilisoft.

What does it do? Produce an MPEG file? Or does it burn the VCD as well?

If it just produces the MPEG file, what are you doing with it? Using VCDEasy? What settings are you using? Do any warning messages pop up?

    Etc., etc., etc.

    Details!

    Regards.

A .dat is just but one of all files (albeit the most important) that make up a VCD. (See "what is" top left)
If this Xilisoft leaves you with just one .dat file after the conversion, it's really no good...
(I've moved this to the (S)VCD authoring forum)

By encoding your source files to VCD specs mpg. To that end, TMPGEnc lends itself beautifully. And free for that task too.
Head over to the CONVERT section left, and find some "<fill in your source file format here> to VCD" guides using the Format conversion selector, and filter those who use TMPGEnc using the Search guides by tool selector.
