  1. I tried to search the forum, but it seems that most of the posts are just slightly different then mine.

I'm trying to just compress a movie to play in Quicktime. Rather it be a VOB file, an AVI file or a MOV file. Normally the source file is big, so I want to make it smaller.

When I encode them using the .MOV present, it encodes and finishes just fine. But when I try to play it using Quicktime, the software just locks.

Any help? I've used the older version of ffmpegx without any problems. I'm surprised that I haven't gotten it to work.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Which version of ffmpegX are you using? Some folks are having truble with 0.0.9t and have reverted back to 0.0.9s (like me).

  3. As a matter of fact I am using 9t. I'll try 9s. Thanks for the reply.

I have a camcorder that records MPEG4 video into ASF containers and I used ffmpegX 0.0.9s to convert the audio from the camcorder's G.726 codec to the iPod ready AAC codec and put the entire file into a mp4 container. I upgraded to ffmpegX 0.0.9t for my latest video clips and now QuickTime tells me that it can't open the files because "an invalid sample description was found in the movie." I'll try to dig up my old version from the trash. I have about a hundred of these video clips from my camcorder that i want to put in my new video iPod. Speaking of that, I wish ffmpegX could do a batch convert.

    9s may be found here:

    http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ffmpegX_0.0.9s.dmg

Don't forget you'll need the earlier set of binaries. Toss the old set (inside application Support/ffmpegx/) and the app will tell you where to find the older ones for the 9s app.

Major is aware of the problem but it doesn't seem to be that widespread. All I know is that 9s works while 9t doesn't (for me).

  7. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.
