    Hi

Can anyone help me i'm trying to do a PI/PO test on my burnt dvd's but unfortunately DVDINFo doesn't seem to like NEC drives. Is there a program that will do these tests with the nec drives. I have both the NEC 3500 and the 3520.

    thanx

  2. Not with manufacterer firmware. You have to use hacked firmware, which voids the warranty if you still have one.

  3. I love Liggie&Dees firmware on my NEC3520. Nero CD-Speed scans DVDS ok with them. 8)

  6. moults, I have a NEC 3520a with standard Nec firmware version 3.05. I can run PI/PO tests with Nero CD-DVD Speed version 4.10.

  7. I use Liggy&Dees 2.U3 firmware which is based on the latest NEC 3520 firrmware I think.

  8. I recommend going with Liggy's 3.06 bitsetting firmware. This is the same as the official f/w but with riplock removed, bitsetting and RPC1 (no speedups).
I have had problems with Dee's firmwares due to the media speedups. eg. Ritek G05's fail 80% of the time for me when burnt at 12X. Of course it could have been bad discs, but I get fewer failures burning at the rated speeds.

I've downloaded the official firmware 3.5 and when i get the chance to open my PC and set the drive as master i'll flash it and hope for the best.

I think my Nec 3520 is set as master but i'm not sure as I also have an Nec 3500. Is there a way to find out which is the master without opening the case.

If it is the master is there a way to flash the drive without having to open the case.

    Thanks for all your help.

  10. Click control panel, performance & maintence, system, hardware, device manager, DVD/CD-ROM drives, right click on the drive, then click properties, if location is 0 it's master, 1 is slave.
To flash the drive, disable the other drive in device manager, right click and click disable, then do the same thing to enable after flashing.

My Nec 3500 is set as master and the 3520 which i need to flash is set as slave. Will I still be able to use this method if i disable the master and flash the slave.

    Thanx

  12. The NEC site says that the slave drive has to be disabled if the NEC is master, it doesn't say anything about if the NEC is slave. You should be able to disable the master and flash the slave. Just make sure when you do it that it says the right drive in the box.
