  1. Gah...

I have a Final Cut Pro sequence I need to export to VHS. Here's what I have: a camcorder, the miniDV tape [with sequence already printed out], a VCR, and a TV.

What can I do? Is there any way I can connect the camcorder to the VCR or TV to capture the footage straight off the DV tape? What settings should I be set at, channels, anything?

    Help, if possible... thanks.

    Hi C_S,

As you're using Final Cut Pro, I'm guessing you're working on a Mac...? It's at this point that I should say I know nothing about Macs. However...

I do use Premiere Pro 1.5 on a PC and that has the ability to export to VCR (I believe) but you'd need the right connections between PC (Mac) and VCR. It may be the same for Macs and Final Cut Pro...

I've never done this before, but I'm guessing you'll need to use the cables that have yellow, red and white connectors at each end (don't recall the proper name for these).

Alternatively, if the footage is on a miniDV tape, just pop that into the camcorder and hook that up to the VCR using the same cable I described above. The camcorder end is most likely to be a single jack leading to the coloured connectors at the other end...

You'd need to tune the VCR into the camcorder using the same method you tune it to TV channels - have something playing on the camcorder when doing this. Alternatively, one of the AV channels may already default to the camcorder - in fact, try this first.

I hope that helps some. Good luck...

daamon is correct, this would be the easiest.
next time though, if your camera has pass through
capability, then Use FCP-->Print to Tape, and
just pass through the camera to the VCR using
FW from Mac to camera, red/yellow/white rca to VCR.

  4. Ah, the VCR I was trying to use was busted... It didn't have the capability to select the AV channel. Bleh.

I got it working elsewhere without a hitch.

    Thanks.
