recently, i bought the intervideo windvd 7. the software is simply great. i played the dvd with all the features of 'audio center' enabled. i played the dvd in 4 speakers mode with Dolby Pro Logic II Movie Mode enabled.

i ripped the dvd and encoded it into avi retaining the original dvd audio i.e., ac3 6ch sound. now, i played this avi file in windvd. Surprisingly, the audio center and video center - both are disabled. can anybody tell what's the problem. so, altough i could play the avi file, i couldn't use the extra features of audio/video center like the speaker configuration, theatre effects, etc..

anyone, please tell me what's the problem with windvd. i want to play the avi in windvd 7 with the audio center enabled. pls help !!

i would first try with another player and ac3 decoder too see if it works fine. like videolan or mpc or ac3filter.

the file is playing well in all other players. i even have ac3 filter installed in my system. i played the file in wmp, vlc, bsplayer - all using ac3 filter as audio codec to decode the ac3 audio. Although ac3 filter is sufficient to hear the ac3 audio, but, none of these players have the extra features that windvd offers like - 2,4&6 speaker configurations with Dolby Pro Logic II, Spatializer, SRS Dialog Clarity, Intervideo ICE, Theatre Effects and so on...these many extra features are available only in WinDVD 7.

in other words, ac3 filter doesn't provide these many configuration changes. although a few are available.

That's the reason i wanted to watch the avi movie in windvd. actually, the avi file is playing in windv too. i can see the video and hear the audio. but, the audio centre and video center features are disabled. i want to enable those features.

Obviously, you screwed it up when you ripped it! Intervideo has tightened up their code with recent releases and they are not as flexible as they once were with file structures and errors in those file structures. If you are NOT squeaky clean in the specs department, you are bound to have problems. Go back to the software you used to rip the video and troubleshoot from there. Or simply try another ripper / encoder.

i have a question. did any of you guys tried playing an avi file in windvd. if yes, did you notice whether the audio/video central features are enabled.

pls check that fact, with your own avi files, leave about mine. pls confirm in your computers, whether windvd 7 will enable "audio/video central" features while playing an avi file, b'coz, i'm tired of ripping & encoding the same movie again and again.

if i'm confirmed that windvd doesn't support avi playback along with audio/video central features enabled, then, i'll start working on other alternatives. otherwise, may be, i'm wasting hours of time ripping, encoding and playing avi in windvd.
