  1. Right i'll probably sound thick but i'll cut to the chase -

whats the best way to transmit whats on my computer screen to my television screen.

I've looked over this and other forums but i'm now suffering from info overload. As far as i can see i've got an s-video connection next to the connection for my monitor at the back of my pc, but i only have scart inputs on the back of television set. Whats the best way of connection, i've seen convertor boxes and graphics cards with tv out capability, to cut it short i'm confused.

is there any help out there?

    thanks

  2. PC card with an output to match your input should be best, and probably least expensive to boot. Avoid converter boxes unles absolutely necessary.

I know nothing about scart connectors other than they are a Europe thing, I thought at least some had S-video?

Nvidia cards seem to have the best quality TV out, there are a LOT of diddly issues with doing this as PC and TV displays are fundamentally different.

If your TV only has composite inputs for video, the easiest might be to just get a composite out PCI video card.

But, you should check your AGP card specs. Some come with a small cable adapter that takes the composite off the S-Video jack. (One of the pins is a composite signal) Then you would be set with what you already have.

  4. thanks for the reply,

just one thing, again i am probably showing my incompatance here, but would i be right in assuming that the s-video output only outputs video and not audio? would i have to run a seperate connection from my soundcard to an external amplifier, say a hi-fi?

    thanks again

Yes on the audio. That would come from your sound card, line out. You get a 1/8" stereo male phone plug to a male RCA stereo phono cable adapter and plug that end into your amplifier, line in, CD in, etc., or into your audio in jacks on your TV.

Fairly common adapter. You may use a female phono jacks on the adapter and a regular RCA stereo phono cable to extend the adapter cable. These are obtainable at most audio stores.
