    all of a sudden i cant play back .avi files in anything other than BSpro, or VLP. even divx player wont play them. MPC opens, sit there for a while and then closes. no errors reported.
    i may have mucked something up but dont know where to start
    any ideas?

    Sounds like you've messed up your codecs. VLC has its own decoding, while the rest use DirectShow (IIRC). Installed any codec packs lately?

    No. not any packs. cant think of anything else.
    I also cant get into Divx config. it wont open up and i have uninstalled divx5.1 and re-installed it with no luck.
    Just thought. i did install divx6 create (which seemed to work ok) and have recently installed an update for Canapus Procoder 2.04 (which puts Divx 5.1 on) and that didnt work so maybe the 2 versions have got mucked up

    You could try using codec sniper to remove all of the avi/divx codecs, then reinstalling only the one(s) that you need.
