  1. I've got a 399mb mp4 file that plays the audio but not video in all my software players (Windows Media, Zoom Player and Ace DivX Player. I've got all the divx codecs necessary. I d/l the 3ivx thing but it made no difference except changing the file from a Winamp media file to a 3ivx file.
Gspot won't open the file, so I d/l AviCodec. It does open the file, but only gives the audio properties, not the video. I'm running WinXP Pro with 256mb ram on a 2.4ghz machine. Could it be a duff file?

    Thanks for any help

PS I've had other mp4 files that worked fine after installing 3ivx.

I have had a similar problem . Nero showtime played it as it was a nero digital mp4 file. Also the latest version of winAVI version 7 will play and convert it.

mp4 is mp4, although Nero ones may contain say VOBSubs as a private stream, still 100% spec compliant mp4.

As said haali's splitter, but if you get audio then it sounds like you already have a splitter. So ffdshow should help.

Neither ffdshow nor haali's splitter will work by themselves. Playback requires a splitter and decoders.

Should also point out that Haali's splitter supports VOBSub's and chapters as used by Nero.

  5. You may want to try the Nokia Media Player or install the latest version of Quicktime.

    I'm told both handle mp4

Quicktime's mp4 support is somwhat limited, still no ASP support and the AVC playback is also limited. Also I still don't think that it supports he-aac.

mplayer or VLC would be viable options though. Also Osmo4.
