  1. I have burned some mpeg files onto a Memorex CD-R 700MB and a Imation CD-RW 650 with the same result. My DVD player says no disc. I have looked to see if my DVD player can play these and it says it does. I have a RCA model # RC5215P. I used the suggestions from the comments at the end and I still can't get my DVD player to play them. I used Nero to burn it and VCDGear to convert it. I would really appreciate the help because I am really frustrated right now. Thanks to anyone and everyone who helps.

Does it play on your computer?
And if you are using CD-Rs, try using CD-RWs instead and vice versa.

  3. This may be a dumb question, but does your player have the dual laser required to read CDR/RW?

  4. Not a dumb question at all!

DVDs are really quite different from CDs and importantly, a DVD drive actually uses a different wavelength (i.e., colour) laser.

Now, although this doesn't make any difference to a pressed CD, CD-R media were only designed to be read by the laser on a CD/CD-ROM drive and are not read properly by DVD drives that don't know about this.

Thus, for a DVD drive to be able to consistently read CD-R media, it will have two different lasers (dual-lasers) or a second set of optics (dual-optics). A DVD player that is designed to read CD-R/W media will advertise this fact and it will be a feature in the manual.

    Regards.
