There are all types of media out there(just check out eBay and you'll see). What is best for burning VCDs? I will be getting a Daewoo 5000n for Christmas. There is silver/green, silver/blue, silver/black, silver/silver, platinum/platinum, diamond/diamond. What characteristics should I look for? I don't know if its a sales pitch, but a lot of eBay sellers say the stuff on spindles or cakeboxes are crap that's at least 5 or 6 years old.

I enjoy reading other posts to this group and greatly appreciate any help!

  2. Get the brand that works best with your hardware. Generally dull coated disks work best. The various colors are due to the coatings used. A common problem with getting a VCD to play on a set top DVD player is because of laser bounce. If the media is just a bit too shiny the laser will have a hard time tracking. There is no one brand that works great for everybody. You'll need to experiement. I've had good luck with Verbatium DataLifePlus...commonly found in stores and Ricoh Platinum available from several online sources. The former is bluish the Ricoh is a rather unusual greenish/gold. They are rated at 200 years. LOL!

What you've heard about bulk packages of disks may be somewhat true. I once picked up a 50 pack of a name brand. I had at least a 30% failure rate. I complained, the manufacturer sent replacements. Interestingly, each was in its own jewel box. Those worked 100%. Draw your own conclusions.
