  1. how do you copy a VCD ? Can I just make a straight CD to CD copy of it, or do I have to rip from the VCD I just made then burn the files on a new CD?

The reason I ask is, I would like to delete the large mpg files off my harddrive, but maybe some in the future might ask me for a copy of the VCD I just made?

Any help would help a heap.
    Thanks.

  2. A direct disc copy will work, as will extracting the MPEG and reburning. So delete away

Hold on! keeping your original mpg file is the best choice.

Disc copy can not always make an identical copy, especially from a cd-r(w) (s)VCD disc. data cd has data corrections, so that some slight scratch on the disc does not affect the correctness of the data, however, a (s)VCD does not have the data correction, so any scratch on the disc will permanently damage the data - no way to get it back.

I guess the people making audio and video standard do not want people to copy the cds, so no data correction was introduced (but for home-made video, we do need that for future copies, that's too bad).

I always copy the important mpg file as data cd for the future use. If you want to use the vcd for future copy, make sure your disc is well protected.
