    Hi,

I just rented a DVD which somehow has it's seeking (navigation slider bar) disabled. I can switch chapters/sections, fast forward/reverse, etc. In WinDVD the slider is disabled. In mplayerc, I can drag the slider but nothing happens and it returns back to current position.

This is happening on an original, "manufactured" DVD which I played directly from the DVD disk (it wasn't on my hard drive; it wasn't ripped). Then, I did use DVDDecrypter and put the files on my hard drive and tried again. Exact same results. Still can't seek.

I don't know much about DVD's. I'm assuming it's the way the DVD was authored. Is there a software application that can fix this?

    Thanks.

  2. What movie is it? I very rarely use slider bars on DVDs, I may have the movie and see if mine does the same thing.

This is known as PUO (prohibited User Operation). Manufacturers implement this to prevent you from skipping warnings, trailers and other crap on the dvd.

Only rip disks you own. Use DVD Decrypter. By default, this option is not selected. Go to Tools, Settings and check both boxes that say:

    Remove IFO PUOs
    Remove VOB PUOs

In either File mode, IFO mode or ISO read mode tab, whichever you prefer.

I don't think I should post the title, it's a very controverisal subject. I know there's something called "freedom of speech" in the constitution, but it quickly being taken away as more and more people discover the Internet.

Very cool! It worked! As they say "You may now unfasten your seat belts. You're free to move around the cabin."

    Thanks again
