hello... i am totally new to vcd´s so please be kind!
i used a cd burning software to write an animation onto a cd-r, as a vcd. I checked the CD afterwards and i saw extra files on there (including a player of some kind).... which looked hopeful.
when i got home i put the cd in my dvd player, but it wouldn´t read it. i have a new sony, which is able to read MPEG´s and thus vcd´s (as it states in the manual).
So what is wrong... should i use a cd-rw or a different piece of software? so my q to y´all is:
what is the best configuration:
type of cd & software combo.

What program and how did you burn the MPEG to VCD. You should have several dirs and files. But not a player (at least not standard).
Can you play the VCD in your PC (see the "Play" section to the left).
Are you sure you DVD player can read CDR media? Check the DVD players list (also to the left). -
WinOnCD puts a player on the disk so your burn could still be OK. It's called vcd_play.exe.
You may be on the right track with the CD-RW. Some players can read them even though they won't read CD-R. As Vejita-sama suggests, check your player in the list and that may tell you for sure. -
I believe the reason you can't play cdrs in your DVD player is you are using the wrong brand cd. You said You have a Sony DVD player. Sony only plays "Prime Peripherals" brand cdrs. I read this somewhere, (I forget where). There may be other brands but I don't know what they are. If anyone knows of other brands, please email me. I have a Sony DVD player at home and "Prime Peripherals" work perfectly. I hope this solves your problem.
