  1. Ok, here's an interesting one. I've purchased an HP-DVD100i, and it came with Sonic's MyDVD. MyDVD will not allow you to use Text-Based buttons, only thumbnails. A friend has DVDit, which he let me try before buying, and it won't write to DVD+RW media (it's v2.1). DVDit will, however, create the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories on my hard drive. The question is, why can't I just copy those directories onto a DVD using Nero to create a UDF file system on the DVD?

MyDVD won't let me load a DVDit project, obviously. Any ideas?

    thanks in advance.

You should be able to do just that, assuming NERO has DVD+RW capabilites, just make sure you burn in the UDF/ISO9660 bridge mode.

Perfect! I think that's the problem. I was using UDF mode only. Will try bridge mode. Thanks!

  4. Ok, well, that didn't work. Anyone have any other ideas?

  5. I think that is a drawback of Nero. From what I here its not totally DVD-R compliant like they claim. Some have had success while others have not. You did include the ifo & bup files in your folders right?? is so, drop me an email, I might be ableot help you out another way.

Drag and drop the audio_ts and the video_ts files into Record Now (I think that's the name, I'm at work and can't check) that came bundled with your drive (at least it came with mine). The "screen" states that CD-R is recommended but the program also work with DVD+RW disk. I have burned a number of DVD on DVD+RW this way, i.e. it works!

Vulcan, You're on the right way...
Nero 5.5.6.4 and older versions doesn't work for DVD+RW video.
HP RecordNow is the solution to create it.

Ok, well I tried that. No luck in my DVD Player. I've got
a Pioneer DVD-F727, and it plays the DVDs authored by MyDVD with no problem. Is there some requirement for placement on the physical disk that I'm missing?

Vulcan, have you played a DVD you've burned with RecordNow on a set-top player?

rmtaibo: What's the difference in the filesystems created by Nero and RecordNow?

    Thanks in advance.

It works on my stand-alone player which is a Philips DVD 711. Did you drag the audio_ts and video_ts folders, just the files in the video_ts folder or did you burn the image? You have to drag the folders as such.

I have not authored any DVD's with MyDVD (the program that came bundled with the burner) but I have done so with SpruceUp and some other DVD authoring programs and I have had no problems playing the DVD burned Record Now on my stand-alone. One thing that I found out before I found out that I could use Record Now to burn the video_ts and audio_ts folders was that it worked to rename the extension of the image file to .iso and then load the image in Ulead Movie Factory (can't do that anymore since the trial period have elapsed).

Maybe I should add that I have updated Record Now (there is an update on the HP site). Don't know if this matters. Funny that it works for me but not for you. Could it be something in your authoring process?

Hey there. I cannot think that my authoring proces is incorrect, because myDVD is pretty much brainless.

I would use Nero to burn, but I don't know much about the
formatting of a DVD video disk. If there is any info that you guys could point me to on that end, it would be great.

Anyway, I went up to best buy tonight. And I tried it on
3 additional players, an older sony, and a new magnovox and a new pioneer. These players weren't hooked up to TVs, so I can't speak on the playback quality, but the 2 newer players seemed to recognize the disk just fine.

I am somewhat confused as to why the apex player does not.
    hrmph....
    thanks for the info

Re: MyDVD not letting you use text based buttons, can you make invisable buttons (like in DVDit)?
If so, make your text and place an invisable button on it.

Otherwise, Prassio (or whatever it's called), that comes with the Pioneer A03 (but is available by itself) will likely burn your DVD images.
