I have a new toy. an AMAZING camera from www.octave.com records 6 minutes 0f 640x480 30fps with audio video. at this tiny size needless to say strapt it to a lot of neato toys

here is the problem. tmpgenc converts to mpog quite nicely but for samples I want to EDIT out junk from the video but retain the ORIGINAL quality Example the Rocket flight the original ASF contains 90% junk only about 50 seconds is useful video.
I want to "cut" a chunk out of of the ASF file without reencoding it. (MS Media V9 audio MS Media V7 video) sodoom 9 is out
Avi mpg splitter appears to be exactly what I need but I am not sure if its "reencoding" or not and it just does not work well. it will let me edit but it STOPS playback the moment I touch a button or a slider so I have to PLAY the file from the beginning till I get where I want thenI have to play it all over again to find the end point. if I move the slider the screen playback section freezes at the last frame it was on before I touched the slider so I can not quickly "slide" to my desired start and end points.
Suggestions ? all I want to do is select a start and end point in an ASF file (there is a few at that address above) and CUT that in new ASF file with NO reencoding or recompression.
is there anything out there that will do this properly ?

thankyou very much alas this tool is even worse. I have to know before hand the exact time indexes that I want to start and end the cut :-(
basically what I am after is a tool like avi mpg splitter from boilsoft but one that actually works :-) like in tmpgenc when you goto cut an mpg you can drag the slider back and forth visually see where in the file you are click the start point click the end point tell it to go.
I need it to be "fast" since I will be doing many at a time (days worth of flying) at this rate it would be faster to encode to mpg and then cut but I am trying to find a way to retain the original quality without recompressing.

Look for VirtualDub v1.3 It MUST be this version, as later ones do NOT support ASF files.
Also, what about Windows Movie Maker that comes with XP ? I don't know the program at all, but I do know it supports ASFs. -
Ithink movie maker will only output wmv though. this steeper is actually quite excellent. I have to play the file and make notes on the time indexs I want but its FAST and clearly so fast its not reencoding. I am very pleased so far. it lets me joing them together too !
I will look into virtual dub (it will allow a visual indexing ?) why wont later version do asf did MS bully the ? if so why ?
