    Hi. I converted a d2v file to avi and tried frameserving it using virtualdub and tmpgenc. But the preview window in tmpgenc shows no picture. Does this mean the video is not there? Is there a way to recover the video? I couldn't find the vob files that i used to get the d2v file, but i converted it already to avi. Do i still need the vob's to frameserve? Thanks.

    VOB<-->D2V<-->VFAPI

    They all rely on each other. So no VOB, no video unless you saved a real avi somewhere along the line.

    I would suggest using AVISynth over VFAPI anyway.

    It doesn't necessarily mean there's no video in your output. Encode for a few minutes, then stop and check the resulting mpeg.

    The VFAPI avi gets the video from the D2V which gets it from the VOB. If you delete/move the VOB then it can no longer frameserve the video.

    To create a real avi you need to re-encode the frames from the VOB's so that the avi actually contains video frames, rather than just frameserving them. If you don't have the VOB, then you can't re-encode it, so no real avi.

    So the avi that I have right now cannot be encoded because there are no vob's. Thanks for the info, i've been having problems with this eversince. Now I understand that I need the VOB's until I finish encoding the videos. Thanks again.
