I have Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum. I have a 10meg MPEG-1 formated file (formatted for VCD). I have been working for several days trying to make a VCD! In every case, the DVD player(s) will not play the video. I have tried to burn 10 CD's so far, are they coasters now?
I am using the EZ CD creator wizard and adding one MPEG file, using the "simple sequence" choice. Easy CD creator verifies that it is 'white book compatible' in every category. I am burning the CD-R media at 4X (just to make sure).
Easy CD verifies success. I can "explore" the VCD on my computer's DVD player and play the .dat file in the MPEGAV folder using Windows media player.
The VCD will not play on my brand new GE DVD player model GE1401P.
I searched the knowledge base at Roxio and noted some comments about DVD player compatability, so I took my 10 VCD disks to Best Buy and tried 4 of the newest DVD/TV combo player models that claimed Video CD compatiblity: Panasonic, GE, Sony, etc. None of them would recognize the disk(s). They are the latest models. What could I be doing wrong?
I also noted in one of the Roxio knowledge base articles that some DVD players were VCD compatible but NOT compatible with CD-R or CD-RW. What other media exists besides these 2 for VCD? Is there a media that is preformatted for VCD?
Thanks in advance for any support, Hank Westerman

Hank,
More than likely your dvd player will only play cd-r's for audio cd's. Most of the lower end dvd players that I know of will not play cd-r vcds. Try burning the vcd to a unformatted or erased cd-rw. Also, take the cd-r vcd's and try them in the $200+ dvd players like the Panny RV31 or RP56. Another thing, check the dvd comaptibility list link on the left. Hope this helps.

It's likely you are a victem of the faulty VCD Creator included with the current version of Easy CD Creator 5. There are many VCD compatable players that will not play discs authored this software.
You should try another VCD authoring program. Try Nero, or try TSCV from http://www.ttool.org. TSCV is freeware and it works well.
Since you are able to take test discs in to try out, make an Audio CD on CDR. If it plays, the unit can read CDR so you can rule that out as the source of the incompatability.

a nice work around is to open the Video footage into Impressions to edit within the Roxio software and then use the option with rendering to start VCD creator directly after rendering.
this will fix that situation with Roxio Easy CD Creator Platinum
a little work around but it is effective -

sorry to say, but i fell into the same predicament. Roxio even tried to tell me that my player "must not be compatible/able to play cd-r/rw's.
but after changing to Nero, I have had no problems. just wish i could use the menu parts of roxio. maybe roxio will fix it.
good luck.

Yep! Rocked by Roxio...
I installed Nero 5.5, burned a VCD on a CD-R disc and it played right off the bat on my el-cheapo GE DVD player.
One clip was a sample from this site (Authoring section), the other clip I captured with my Nvidia Personal Cinema via the VCD encoder. This was a 3 minute test clip of a CNN newscast. The audio appeared to be slightly delayed ?
Thanks to everyone for your help. I have an open case with Roxio, I'm going to nail'em on this one.
