i am trying virtual dub but i dont know the best setting for me. i want to be able to record TV shows in quality thats worth watching.

what setting should i use for sports or sitcoms????

where do i get low motion divx codec?? i followed the link on this site but it doesnt give me that option

  2. with your system you don't want to capture at too high a resolution because you'll drop frames. Do you have a lot of harddrive space? If so, I would recommend using one of the lossless codecs like huffy 2.1 or MJEG. They take up huge amounts of space but you won't have to worry about dropping frames as much. You have to understand that you were asking your 500 mhz processor to not only capture video to your harddrive but then to compress it on the fly...that is too much to expect. If you want the easiest least time consuming method. You capture to MJEG using 18 as your quality setting at a resolution of 320x240 (NTSC). When you are done recording you will want to load up your video into virtualdub, cut out the commercials (mark in, mark out delete) and then under compression hit whichever Divx codec you want and under audio pick mp3 and play with the quality settings until you get what you want. If you have any more specific questions I'll try to answer.

    good luck,

    Mark

  3. first of all THANK YOU! secondly, help me understand my options??

    (1) when i use mmc and capture 1/4 res mpgeg1 everything is insync. (but the quality sucks)

    (2) if i try to capture to high res. everything is out of sync (but looks great)

i just want to record whatever i want to record like i would use my vcr

what settings should i use and what software should i use to capture ok quality stuff from my AIW used as a dvcr?????? should i use virtual dub or mmc??

500 mghz isnt enough is that the bottom line???

    THANKS
