    Hello:
I've been struggling with audio OOS problems. I've spent some time looking though the FAQ and existing threads but don't see this specific question.
    .
Problem originated with capturing 120minute VHS tape to type II avi using Pinnacle Studio 9.3.5. Had bad OOS issues. Found that I could capture with Windows Movie Maker and no OOS issues. Discovered that WMM produces Type I avi so I used "DVD Type I to Type II Convertor" program to convert.

However the converted file has very noticable audio OOS issues. Very confused by this. I've repeated the conversion using another program and had the same result.

So question is: Why would converting a Type I avi with no OOS produce a Type II avi with OOS?

Not sure what to try next. I wonder if I have a problem with a CODEC involved with Type II avi - I'm just reaching for anything now.

I have a 1.5 GHz Dell Workstation, 512 Meg RDRAM, Firewire, 400Gbytes disk across dedicated video capture disks, on-board sound chip, windows xp sp2.
I am capturing the VHS via my Sony Handycam. I have a VHS player attached to the SOny which is attached to the computer via Firewire.

I've noticed some comments about a program called SCenalyser which I think I'll try.

Oh - I downloaded Adobe Premier Elements (APE) and it had OOS issues also. However that is a strange situation also. The captured video is OOS when played back in APE but not OOS when played back in Windows Media. This is all so confusing.
    Any thoughts, pointers, greatly appreciated.

I guess the clue is "I am capturing the VHS via my Sony Handycam", OK

    I don't have a pass-thru camcorder here so I can't comment except that I haven't seen this one before.

yes - oos = out of sync
the audio is out of sync with the video.

When I convert a Type I Avi to Type II it goes OOS.
Very strange - can't see example of this anywhere.

I found the posting that points to the adam wilt article that explains all this OOS stuff. http://www.adamwilt.com/DV-FAQ-tech.html#LockedAudio
He even predicts that converting from Type I to Type II will introduce OOS problems especially on long (2 hour) captured avi files. . Also thanks to these forums, I discovered a tool that seems to fix the problem.
Scenalyzer has a audio lock feature. I captured my VHS file directly to Type II AVI with no OOS - outstanding.
    thanks
