  1. I'm trying to create a compilation of episodes from Star Trek DVDs. I used DVD Decrypter to rip the files. Then I loaded them into Nero Vision Express to edit out the unwanted episodes and compile the ones I wanted to keep. NVE seemed to do that smoothly. But the DVD it creates doesn't run properly. The video stutters and gradually gets more and more out of sync with the audio.

This is not a media problem, as it happens when I write the file to the hard drive as well.

    Am I missing a step?

NVE is not the greatest of products.

If you don't need menus, you could use DVD Shrink in reauthor mode. Just drag in the episodes you want and compile a new disk.

If you do want menus, either tmpgenc DVD author or DVD Lab Pro can take vts and create new disks.

I'd start with the DVD Shrink option, as it is free. Rip with DVD decrypter as you have been, then use Shrink to finish off.

  3. I can't just drag in the episodes I want. The files created by the ripping program don't split at the episode breaks. The only way to get rid of the other episodes is to use a real editing program. I know NVE isn't great - it came with the burner. But some people manage to make it work for them.

you can split the files using DVDShrin kif you use the start/end feature when you drag a title across

why not just pop in the original DVD and rip the bits you want again with Shrink. You can author them if you want menu's

In most cases, you will find that Shrink will identify each episode as a seperate title, so you won't even need to use the start and end points. It is much easier than you seem to believe, but the only way to prove it is to do it.

  6. Okay, I admit it. I'm dumb. I can't believe how much time I spent trying to get NVE to work for me before I tried DVD Shrink. You're right, it did exactly what I wanted, quickly and elegantly.
