4gig to 1.4 gig help

hi i have some blank mini sony 1.4 gig dvds and i managed to use my dvd rocorder for my tv to compress a dvd movie from 4.4gig to 1.01 gig with out much quality loss by using the ep+ recoreding option only problem is it wont put the original menu on there.Is there anyway of cutting the menu off of the original dvd and putting in on to the mini dvd? so that i could have the proper dvds for the movie i compressed?

if i used dvd shirnk to compress the original dvd then it wouldnt be watchable
at 1.4 gig on the mini sony dvd.

iv tried adobe encore dvd but it is usless.
maybe dvdedit could cut the menu,s out and dump them to my pc and then i could splice them to the movie.

any help or tutorials guys?
