What is the best program to convert AVI to DVD format.

    eg: dvdsanta, Winavi, etc.

Stability, easy to use, reasonably priced, conversion time, play in all formats after coversion, stay updated.

    Hello,

tmpgenc for $30 us is good

    Kevin

EDIT - actually all tmpgenc will do is convert it to mpeg2 format for dvd authoring. You need to use a program like tmpgenc dvd author ($70) to create the actuall dvd structure that will be burned. I'm not sure of which programs will convert directly from avi to an authored dvd (with menus). Check the tools section under "LISTS" on the left of the screen for dvd authoring programs <------
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I prefer TMPGEnc Plus & TMPGEnc DVd Author.

dvdsanta, winavi and any other 1-click tool are not worth the mouse-click to download them IMO. I need control of what I'm doing, and control is severly limited in these tools IMO.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Most here are anti-all-in-one encode/author type programs. In a way, I agree but not completely. Some of the all-in-one programs are not REAL all-in-ones in that they allow you to use a seperate encoder as part of the process. The difference is that they take care of all the mux/demux/remux/etc.

The problem I have seen with most all-in-ones is that their embedded ENCODER does a lousy job. It's not the lack of control I mind, it's the crappy video output quality which is a direct result of a crappy encoder. The ones that allow you to use TMPGenc, CCE, Procoder, etc. are a much better bet. Yes, if you're into tweaking things and fancy menus then you almost NEED a seperate authoring program. But if you just want your created AVI onto a DVD with good quality, you might want to look at the all-in-ones that allow your encoder of choice. DIKO allows CCE, I think but I've seen some others that have a wider selection.

Let us know how you do.

Subjective. I use TMPGEnc Plus. And, if I have to do any MPG editing, Cuttermaran. But, if you have to do any editing/cutting, it is FAR better to do it while it's still in AVI format.
