    if i get a dvd burner will i beable to burn avis, mpegs, etc, to a dvd-r and it'll play on most dvd players like ps2?

    Only if you have a DVD player that will play avis, mpegs etc. If you don;t they will have to be converted to DVD-Video format before burning in order to play on your standalone.
