  1. I'm a filmmaker and have backed up some VCDs of my movies onto my hard disk by copying the contents of the VCD onto my hard drive (the MPEGAV folder, etc). However, I would like to burn these as VCDs onto new CDs. I tried going into Nero and burning a data disc in Mode 2/XA format but the VCD wouldnt play on my standalone. And I cant choose VCD in the Nero wizard as I already have all the files I need, I just want to put them on a CDR.

Does anyone know who I can get around this at all, maybe I need another program?

    Thanks a lot guys.

If you have ALL of the folders from the VCD.....wouldn't just a drag and drop as data work?

    GavSalkeld,

First, if all you wanted was a copy/backup of the original VCD, you should have simply done a disc->disc copy. Or even created an ISO of the VCD to the hd and then burn the ISO to a new CD. Either can be done with Nero.

However, now that you have the folders on the harddrive, I assume you just dragged/dropped them there, you have a couple of options.

First, and only slightly more difficult, is to use Nero to rebuild the VCD from your MPEGAV folder. Looks like you haven't had luck there.

The second, is to rename your *.DAT file (in the MPEGAV? folder) to MOVIE.MPG and use this in creating a new VCD from scratch. Nero shouldn't try to reencode since its already a VCD (1150k,mpeg-1,44.1k audio) compliant file.

However, not that this has ever been a problem for me, some people say you should run it through a program (forget which) to clean something up in the header first.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

No, you cant just drag and drop the files. You must choose vcd in nero. Try just add the .dat file(s). You will lose the menus if any. Or try vcdeasy and add the dat file(s).

Or make a new backup of your vcd and instead make an image of the vcd. Not just copy the files.

    (tooooooooooooo slow )

  5. Thank you for the quick replies.

I _have_ in fact got menus I wish to preserve, does VCDEasy preserve the menus?

Also, is it possible to create an ISO image from the files already on the hard drive?

    Thanks again.

You 'destroyed' the original structure when you copied them as files from the VCD to HDD. Only way to keep original structure is to copy the VCD, either CD to CD or CD to image.

DEFINATELY....if you still have the original VCD's....just use disc copy OR make an image.

  8. OK, I'll give it a go. So I just go into Nero and create an image file and save THAT to the HDD, right?

You can do a CD to CD copy as well if you have two drives. I don't have Nero but any burning program should be able to copy an unencrypted CD.
