    According to http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcd.htm
    SVCD has the following specs.
    - Video bitrate up to 2.6Mbps
    - Audio bitrate from 32 to 384Kbps (2x stereo channels or 4x mono channels)
    - OGT 2bits/pixel

I have encoded a video stream for SVCD with TMPGEnc and 2 stereo audio streams also with TMPGEnc. Video stream was encoded using the PAL SVCD template. BOth stereo audio streams were encoded separately with 224Kbps bitrate each.
The video stream and the 2 audio streams were muxed with TMPGEnc.

Playing the result in a standalone DVD player, which is capable of SVCD playing, resulted in stuttering video and audio in parts where there is motion in the video stream.
Muxing only 1 audio stream showed no problems.

I wonder, is the up to 384Kbps for audio a combined bitrate for both stereo audio channels (or 4x mono channels) or is it per stereo audio channel? So if you use 2x stereo streams you should use something like 224Kbps for stream 1 and 160Kpbs for stream 2, 192Kpbs for both streams or whatever combination that is combined 384Kbps?

Further, how do I calculate the OGT stream bitrates? Is this also combined with the maximum video bitrate of 2.6Mbps? What should the maximum video bitrate be if I have 1, 2, 3 or 4 OGT streams included?

    Thanks for all your replies.

The total bitrate shouldn't be more than 2748 kbps.
If you want to fit 65 min onto 1 CD, it look like this:
1st OGT stream needs about 30kbps
2nd OGT stream needs about 30kbps
1st audio track you set to 128 kbps
2nd audio track you set to 128 kbps
So you can set the max video bitrate to 2432, the average video bitrate to 1370 to fit 65 min onto 1 80min CD.

    Calculated by FitCD

  3. up to 384kpbs is allowed for each seperate audio track. as someone else pointed out your total combined bitrate is probably way too high

Yep, you are both right. I tried it with lower bitrates for the audio streams and the stutter was gone.

    Thanks guys.
