  1. Hello. I just got a new computer, and am having trouble burning VCDs.

On my last computer, I had Stomp RecordNow Max, and it had a feature to import your MPEG files, and it would build and burn a VCD when you pressed "Record." The VCDs worked perfectly on my DVD players.

My new computer came preinstalled with Sonic RecordNow. The one thing that I cannot do with this program is make VCDs, unfortunately. I tried VCDGear to make some VCDs (put them in BIN format), and then burned the BIN files with DVDDecrypter. None of these VCDs burned from BIN files work on my DVD players.

So, is there another (free) way to make VCDs the way that RecordNow Max did, so I can play them on my players?

    Thanks,
    J

Edit: Reinstalling (I bought the Stomp RecordNow Max program a while back with my last computer) Stomp RecordNow Max won't work, because the version I had doesn't support my drive (Pioneer 108), and there is no way to upgrade the version (from 4.00) since Stomp no longer does the program.

Personally I use VCDEasy, but it's not free.

Look here for a list of VCD Authoring programs.

  3. Thanks for the info, ZippyP. I looked at VCDEasy in the tools section, and it had a link to an older freeware version. Do you know anything about the freeware version? Any problems, limitations, etc.?

    Thanks,
    J

From what I have heard the older free version should be just fine. Perhaps not as fully featured but most of it is all there.

  5. I think I'll download and try the older free version later. If I like it, I might consider buying the newer version. I don't really use/make VCDs that much anymore, but it would come in handy for when I do.

For now, I used a guide I found about putting VCD on DVD without re-encoding the video (just by re-encoding the audio to 48kHz). Seems to work fine, but I think I'll only use this method if I have several VCDs that I want to put on 1 DVD-R.

Once again, thank you for your help, ZippyP. I truly appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    J

  6. Try TSCV for VCD with menus. I think it's still free...

  7. TSCV shows up as freeware. Thanks for the recommendation, reboot. I'll try these programs out when I work with another VCD.
