I was wondering if anyone was having the same problem wwith the star wars dvd set. ive read other threads here about people having problems ripping, but im just talking about being able to read the dvds and play them using a dvd-rom.
i have a lite-on LTD163 drive. It plays all the other dvds i have fine, but whne i poped in any of the discs from the trilogy, including the bonus disc, the drive light will flash like its trying to read it, then after a few tries the light goes out and nothing is picked up. trying to explore the disc under my computer just gives me the error that the disc is either curropted or in an unknown format. the strange thing is that i tried it out on two standalone dvd players and it picked up the discs fine. could it be a firmware thing? or a driver tahts needed to play the type of disc the trilogy uses? i find that hard to believe, but i dont know what else could cause it. any help appreciated, thanks.

Hello,
I would suggest a firmware update. That might be the problem. I have no problem with my Microadvantage 4x dvd burner, or my standalone.
Kevin
(just a side note have you tried rebooting yet? Sometimes little glitches can occur that a reboot might clean up)Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
well i wish that would have done it. i tried rebooting but it didnt help. i also tried removing it and then reinstalling it, but that didnt help
as far as a firmware goes, does anyone knwo where i can get a proper one for my model?
it is the lite on LTD 163
firmware revision GDH6
what i dont understand why its only the star wars dvds, what could be so different about them. i evne tried them in other dvd rom drives on other pcs and they run fine, so it seems to be just my dvd rom drive. if anyone knows where i can get an updated firmware, let me know, thanks. -
I was reinstalling windows and something similar happens to me yesterday when i insert a disc an error message is show :" corrupted or an unknown format".
At some point, i realize that my 2 dvd-rw writers(nec and lg), wasn´t being show by dvd decrypter. Then i reinstall nero 6, and everything is working ok now.
So, maybe, some codec or dll is corrupted and should be reinstalled.......
good luck! -
well i hope its nero for me too lol, cuase tracking down one codec would be like a needle in a hay stack
-
well unfortunately that did not help me. i also tried reinstalling windvd, uninstlaling quicktime, and reinstalling windows media player. all those things did nothing, it still gives the same error for all the discs.
is there anything else i could try? i would doa firmware updae, but i cant find a place for my drive. -

Maybe the drive is just going bad. I had to retire a LTD163D because it was a hit and miss thing just reading DVD's and it go to the point where it wouldn't read DVDR's at all. I replaced it with a LTD166S.

well ive tried a coupel firmware flashers and niether seme to be able to do the job, either i already have the lates firmware or this particular drive just wont allow for changes. it is interesting athat i dont see my firmware lsited anywhere as an official firmware. maybe my drive is just dieing, im just so frustrated the one series it decides to screw up on is the trilogy lol, i mean everything from lord of the rings to spiderman works fine...
