  1. My new DVD burner brought Nero 6 OEM and when I try to burn my SVCDs to CD with it, it tells me I have to buy an mpeg2 encoder. If I try to burn it as data, the two episodes go over the 700MB limit and I can only burn 1 ep. What do you folks use to burn? Thanks.

You only need the Nero mpeg encoder if the videos are not already SVCD compliant mpegs. Other options include TmpGenc, Cinemacraft encoder and others. I suggest you read a few guides. Start with WHAT IS on the left, then move on to the convert section.

Does this mean you have a SVCD compliant MPG?

  4. How do you burn with TMPEG? I didn't know you could. Is there a guide for this? My files are already encoded so all I have to do is burn them to CD.

VCDEasy will burn compliant mpegs to VCD or SVCD.

You don't. You convert your source files to SVCD compliant mpegs. Then you can burn with Nero without needing the Nero Mpeg plugin.

As ZippyP. suggested you should download vcdeasy to author your svcd. Just open vcd easy tell it you want to create a svcd then add your mpg file. You can also create chapter points with it. When it is finished you will have a cue and bin file. You can burn the cue sheet directly from vcdeasy or use nero and choose burn image then just burn the cue file.

    Good luck.

  9. I've used VCDeasy to make VCD/XVCD before that were just under 800MB per CD but I think SVCD doesn't work the same way or I'm doing something wrong. Am I supposed to be able to burn the same amount of MBs with SVCDs that I can with VCDs?

Yes, 800 MB on a typical 80 min CD

  11. Well, I got the SVCD to CD problem licked but not I have to figure out how to put them on DVD. If I burn them as data, I won't save the space like when burning and SVCD. Unfortunately, my Nero 5.5 doesn't even see my DVD burner so I have to look for another option(preferably a free one) Any suggestions? I plan on putting about 11 SVCD episodes per DVD, if that narrows down the choices. Thanks for the advice and help everybody.

  12. You wont save any space on DVD like you do on CD as there is no Mode1 or mode2 its all mode 7.

I'd recommend SVCD2DVDMPG and TMPGEnc DVD Author. How many eps you can get onto a DVD-R depends on bit rate used when encoding to SVCD mpeg, and the length of the episodes.
