  1. I've always used WinME for playback and editing of all kinds of MPG-files. I recently had to upgrade to WinXP, but now a lot of MPG(2) files can't be played (on Windows Media Player). It will play, but there's no video, no sound and the counter is all screwed up.

Also, when I try to convert the MPG-files with TMPGEnc, it gives an error-message wich says:

    XTREAMLOK ALERT:
    DLL Loading Problem
    or
    Debugger Detected
    or
    Integrity Violated

This isn't just one ore two MPG's, it's with a lot of files. I can't find anything that's helpfull.... can someone help me???

    Thanx!

Kind of simple question, but do you have a MPEG 2 codec installed? It doesn't come with the OS. This one will work.

Usually if you install a software DVD player, you will have one from it, even if you delete the player.

A little info on XTREAMLOK: http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/detail.php?id=3415

Yes, I have codecs installed. In fact, several MPEG 2 files are played back perfect with WMP9. It's just that some files work and some files don't, but I'm sure that at least the most of the files that can't be played are correct files, there's nothing wrong with them.

Thanks also for your link on XTREAMLOK, however, there's not much information. I have already deleted the XL.EXE file from my system and I've searched the register for it (found nothing) but I keep getting this error message while trying to open certain files with TMPGEnc. This never happened with WinME, only with WinXP. I'm still using the same codecs I had before with WinME, so I'm quite positive that it's not the MPG's, it's not the codecs, but I guess it has something to do with WinXP.

    ....I'm confused.....

Try the Ligos filter, or install Power DVD, its Mpeg 2 filters are much better

  5. I've done some more research on my problem and this is what I found:

XTreamLok is some sort of security program that disables users to open MPG files that are (or seem) illegal. Not only doesn't the program do a good job, because lots of video files that I've had for a long time suddenly can't be played anymore (no, these aren't illegal hollywood movies from kazaa!) but also, the program seems to be installed with updates from either Norton Antivirus or WinXP without notification to the user. In my opinion: SPYWARE!

Anyway, it seems lot's of people are confronted with XTreamLok, but I can't find a way to remove this program. I'm glad my own DV-movies are still functional, but it's frustrating to see how many MPG's have suddenly become useless.

I'm gonna search again for a while, but if I can't find a way to get rid of xtreamlok it's gonna be a drastic format C, byebye XP, hello ME again

Ive never came across this problem before but look in control panel, adminitistrive tools.services to see if its listed in there .If it is, disable it.Otherwise I also found this,I dont know if it works or not but worth a try.Use at your own risk as i said i have never came across this problem b4.

Out of curiosity what version of xp are you running ie home, pro or corp and what service pack if any have you installed ?

these are two good removal tools to use as well and both are free and i use both of them so i know they are safe to use if used properly.

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html spybot s&d

All i do know is that when i setup a system with xp first thing i do is run an anti spyware proggie like spybot on it and it removes something from windows media player, perhaps it is this that it removes.

had to find out more about this nasty and apparently its a software that prevents software from being reverse engineered.

Do a search for xl.exe and delete it,also run regedit and remove any entries relating to it,be careful when using regedit and always backup your registry b4 removing these entries.

I'm running XP Pro with SP1. As far as I can tell XTreamLok is being installed by either WinXP or Norton, but since I've never used any Norton application at all, it has to have come from Micro$oft. So far, I've deleted XL.EXE and every related item in the register, but it just keeps showing up, even without these files. So far I'm unable to open many WMV and MPG files and when using TMPGEnc the program shuts down, always leaving the XTreamLok warning. There's even a website www.xtreamlok.com, but it's as mysterious as the program itself.

I can live with the idea of preventing people to play illegal movies, but I'm talking legal files and programs that simply can't be used anymore, and I never asked for them to install this piece of spyware on my system. I can't remove it with Adaware, Pestpatrol or any other anti-spyware prog.

ok im trying to help you get rid of this shit, god i would hate to have it on my pc anyway i found this info:

"just finished removing the extremely aggravating xtreamlok application
mentioned here a while back, and thought i would post my findings for
people who run into this in the future.

if you get an error message box that reads "XtreamLok Alert Dll
Loading problem or Debugger detected or Integrity violated" when
you're trying to open a completely innocent multimedia file, search
and destroy the following dlls from your hard drive:

    vxblock.dll
    xinstall.dll
    xsystem.dll

hope this saves people some time. "

    Hey DVDJET,

Thanx for your help. However, I already had removed these 3 files (and some others that were related to XTreamLok) but it didn't work.
Yesterday I called upon the good ol' Format C: and replaced WinXP with WinME.
    No more XTreamLok for me....

sorry you had to go to such extreme method of getting rid of the problem but at least the good old format done the trick.Ive been running xp for years now and have never came across this problem, the only thing i have noticed however is that when you associate video files(any format) with media player that is when i have noticed problems.A good tip to get round this i got from a friend was to associate them with windows media player classic instead which solved the problem. When they were associated with media player(new one) I kept getting errors when opening the files like unrecognised format etc.
Anyway Im glad you got it sorted but I think its put you off xp now eh :P
