Poor photo quality due flicker

Hello,

Today I made my first VCD with digital images on it for viewing on a TV in combination with a DVD player. Everything worked except that the image quality on the TV is not very well. It depends on the source photo's. Photo's with lots of lines (wires for examples) generate heavy flicker. I repeated the process but then making a SVCD but no improvement was seen.

I used NERO 5.0, a PHILIPS DVD 622, 1280 * 960 JPG color photos as source material. The TV is OK I think because the TV and DVD movies look great.

How can I improve the photoquality ?
Resize the photo's first ?
Use another burnprogram ?

Are there more people experience this problem or is this a rare problem ?

I get this flicker problem with certain photos. Each photo that is displayed on the TV is composed of 2 interlaced half frames that are displayed alternately, changing 60 times (NTSC) or 50 times (PAL) a second. One half frame is the odd lines of the image, the other half frame is the even lines of the image. If there is a big difference between the 2 half frames (e.g. if a wire appears only in 1 half frame), then there is a marked flicker in that area of the image on the TV screen. You can blur the photo and this helps but it does not seem the ideal solution!

After experimenting with different resolutions I came to the following conclusion.

How lower the image resolution how lower the flicker.

At 320 * 240 now flicker observed.
At 640 * 480 slight flicker with difficult photo's (wires).

Result is almost acceptable.
