I use Ulead Video Studio 7, and it does everything I need it to do, which is cutting a video, trimming what I don't want, adding a crossfade, and rendering at the format of my choice. Another feature I REALLY like is the 'Save Trimmed Video' as I am editing a basketball game, and there are some individual plays I wish to save. The problem I have is that when inserting crossfades, the program takes FOREVER to process it. This also happens when I delete unwanted sections of the video.

This problem does not occur in Pinnacle. But I don't know if Pinnacle has the equivalent of the 'Save Trimmed Video/Clip'. Is this probloem persistent in newer versions of Ulead Video Studio? Does Pinnacle 9 offer the Save Video option I want?

BTW, I doubt seriously it's my system causing the problem. I've got more than enough power in RAM, CPU, and my WD Raptor.

Thanks very much for any and all input.

How about a little more information.

    1. When you say process it, at what point? For final output or when you insert it?
    2. How long?

When I process it. I'm thinking maybe 10-15 maybe even 20 seconds. That goes for the inserting transitions and deleting sections. I usually switch to the storyboard view and enlarge it so I have them all on one page, that way I can delete every other one. It just takes forever.

Rendering is no problem. Thanks for the help.

  4. yea, i used an earlier version of Ulead and was frustrated with the same issue - it seems to re-render the entire video with each change or something.

In Pinnacle, after you use "split clip" in the timeline mode can't you right click on the one you want and save it? I haven't tried this and don't have Pinnacle on this computer so I can't check it - let me know if it's one of the options.

I do editing with VideoRedo and then dump the clips into VS 8 for processing. Much better and faster. VS 8 editor is worse than VS 7. Cuts are inaccurate and everthing is re-rendered.

Not sure about 7 but for 8 there is checkbox for "do not convert compliant files" for final output. I'm pretty sure VS8 also only reencodes parts of the video that you have changed. I'd look around in the options menu. Note that if you alter the video settings from the source that it has to be renencoded no matter what editing or authoring app your using.
