    Have a couple of .avi files that I'd like to join and convert to dvd, but virtualdub says it can't handle them becuase of the error message in my title. anybody know of a way around this?

    K, click on the link provided, downloaded the tool you suggested. Virtualdub is still giving me the same message. The full error message is:
    Couln't locate decompressor for format MP43 (Microsoft High Speed MPEG4, V3.) VirtualDub requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as thosed used by WIndows Media PLayer, are not suitable.
