So who's actually going to install it right away?
I think I will wait for a bit and see how it pans out, then backup my system right before I actually do it.

Thought I would ask since its supposed to be only days away from release.

I'm dreading this one! With the new security features, MS has stated that most Internet based custom applications will immediately break! Anyone with a large customer base will see their customers installing this quickly. I see lots of OT in my near future (..and I don't mean Off Topic!).

Tekkie, what do you see happening to the typical home user? problems with ISP's, IE, Mozilla... what's your take?

IE shouldn't be much of a problem. Remeber, MS has had plenty of time to get the security features integrated with IE fairly well. As for the others, I don't really know. I'm sure some setup, but I really haven't seen too much on the beta discussion boards to worry about (other than previously stated).

Oh, I have it installed, just for test reasons. I never really use the computer for anything else besides testing. If the software passes the test, then I install it on my regular win2k box.

So far, I have not found any reason to switch from win2k to XP

Just razzin ya. I have 2K on all my machines except for my Toshiba s805 that came with XP Home. I haven't really come across much of anything that I NEED XP for. The only thing so far that wasn't W2K compatible out of the box was my HP Digital Media Receiver, and there's a registry hack to get that up and running. So I'm in no rush for XP myself. But it's nice to have a test machine.

I'll install it on my test box...d/ling it right now (967kb/sec)

have to use some switches to get all the temp stuff on another drive. I did all the defaults and 1gb of free space was not enough to install it

    Right...

I thought the official videohelp.com mantra was, "If it ain't fix, go and **** it up some more."

We are, after all, talking about Windows. :P

You make it sound as is you have to DO something. You don't, all you have to do is wait and leave it up to someone else to find out what's wrong with Window$. That's why we have so many updates and patches.

So what are you running? T-1? T-3? Or did your company just figure they needed a full OC-3 string?

  24. after install and reboot, before you logon it will ask you to turn on auto updates

after you log on, you get the new security center program. I will leave all the defaults and see what happens. (firewall on)

    3Mbps = 375KB/s (roughly). That is believable.

I get 5Mb at home. Don't know what they're on at work, but it's dog slow. I never use it anyway. Even with 5Mb, I only get up to about 650KB. So he's gotta be on a T-2 or better. Now, if I could only talk SBC into running an OC-48 right up to my apt, that would be pretty SWEET! I guess I shouldn't complain; my plan is only rated at 3Mb.

I tried the Beta version of SP2 in my laptop, instant bluescreen of death!

    Probably didn't read the directions

I used restore to get back into operation. I'm a little gunshy now on trying it again. I'll take another shot at it as soon as my laptop gets totally screwed up with programs I try out, then reformat and SP2 Final.

    Oh, and 2.5MB cable internet.
