I sent some discs to a friend, but he doesn't have DivX codec and can't play the files in Windows Media Player. He is on a dial up connection so I'm wondering what is the bare mimum codec he can download without having to download other software they seem to be offering on the official DivX site??

Get the free Divx codec from www.Divx.com Will not allow you to encode but it will play your divx avis, It also comes with a player.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

yep, and you can even choose not to install the player if you wish.

Possibly another way to go about it would be to use either an xvid codec or ffdshow to decode divx.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Thanks guys. I just got the latest player myself and that is brilliant. I had been playing some of my files in windows media player with my old codec. The play much better now. I couldn't find the part on the DivX site where you could just download the codec and no player, but then I must be half blind or it's well hidden.
