  3. I would use Winamp v2.8 to output your .ogg and .flac files to .wav. Then use your favorite .mp3 encoder. You can get .wav output from .flac files in Winamp if you download the input plugin in_flac.dll from http://flac.sourceforge.net .

In Winamp, just choose Preferences>Plug-ins>Output>Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in. Then click Configure. Select an output folder, then hit play. Just remember to select a different output plug-in when you want to play your files... otherwise you'll end up with a full hard drive pretty quickly!

If you just want to play them, you would yield the best quality leaving the files alone and just playing them as they are in Winamp. .flac files are 100% .wav quality at around 60% of the size. .ogg files smoke .mp3 in the quality department, too.

    Hope this helps!

  4. hey thanks for your input. I found info and did go to download winamp but ya have to pay for pro to encode etc. I found an alternative thats free and works. It converts both ogg and flac with the proper codecs installed.

The program I used is called dBpowerAmp and its free!!! It works great and is really simple to use. I tried bsweet but just got so confused. With power amp you just click it and pick ur file to convert but keep in mind you have to have the codecs for ogg and flac files installed. Sweet and Simple for Newbs like me http://www.dbpoweramp.com

Thanks again srp365 for ur input I appreciate it. Now to convert rm files... lol

ok i guess its trialware ... but didnt see anything stating that when i installed or used it.... but hey it works and is simple!

Winamp has a free edition that will output to WAV. The Pro edition you get other format encoding options (MP3).

DBPoweramp used to have a free and pay version.

You can also goto the home page for oggvorbis, and FLAC, where you can download encoding and decoding tools there.
Linux _is_ user-friendly. It is not ignorant-friendly and idiot-friendly.

  6. Audacity can open Ogg files and save to WAV or MP3.

Bear in mind that converting to MP3 will reduce the quality since you will introduce two sets of compression artefacts into the audio. Why not just keep it in Ogg Vorbis, install the codec and use your favourite audio player?
