  1. Is it possible to burn a DVD quality movie onto a CD-R that will play in a standard DVD player? I know a CD-R will not hold as much.

  2. No
There is no known way of compressing DVD mpeg2, in a lossless way, to fit onto a CD-R/RW. Nor does there exist a way of compressing, in a lossless way, to a format that is still readable by a DVD player - as a DVD format.

  3. Yes. You can. It will hold only less than 18 mins.

  4. True- but that's assuming you have 18 min (or less) movies (??)and one of the few special DVD players that play miniDVD.

  5. Acutally through bitrate lowering a la SVCD, you can get way more than 18 mins per disk...basically SVCD with ac3 sound = miniDVD...anyone close to a Wal-mart can pick a up GE model DVD player that plays these miniDVDs just fine.

  6. This is all semantics- we ought to ask what kind of movies he wishes to put on CD-R??
