    yes, use tmpgenc and "just" cut the left and right borders and reencode.

  3. I found it works pretty well if you cut 40-60 pixels from both the left and right side of an anamorphic (enhanced for 16x9) movie. For instance, Jurassic Park had very large black bars at the top and bottom. Making it full screen would involve clipping what I thought was too much of the picture out. So by clipping 50 pixels, you still get black bars, but they are much smaller. The end result is still a letterboxed picture, but not too much.

  4. I always encode anamorphic DVDs at the full resolution, so I end up with an anamorphic VCD. Thus I preserve the resolution advantage of anamorphic DVDs to the VCD. You need a 16:9 TV or 4:3 TV with 16:9 mode, though.
