  1. Hi;

    I've got a PC with multiformat DVD burner etc.

    I want to buy a TV (standalone) DVD recorder too and want to know whether it's possible to record from a TV (Sky specifically) onto a standalone DVD recorder and then take that disk and edit it on a PC / use as a backup storrage medium.

    As it's capture / edit and burn I thought I'd best post here.

    Cheers;

  2. The answer is yes... I record (capture) home video and laserdiscs to MPEG2 in the form of DVD-RW's (in standard DVD-Video format) with my DVD recorder. Then, I edit and author the final DVD-R on my PC.

    There are various options on how you can do this. The freeware method I use is to extract and demux the .VOB files into separate .m2v and .ac3 files to my hard drive. I use MPEG2Schnitt to edit out clips and pick chapters. Then, I use IFOEdit to create a simple DVD file (no menu). I have Nero for burning the DVD file to DVD-R, but there are free programs for that, too.

    A very easy way to edit and author is with TMPGEnc DVD Author. It will take the .VOB's just as they are and allow you to edit, author and burn a DVD with chapters and a menu with very little effort.

    If you want frame-accurate editing capability, look at Womble MPEG-VCR or MPEG Video Wizard.

    Here's the DVD Recorder forum:

    There's lots of guides on how to use the programs I've mentioned. There are also other ways to do what you want besides what I've described.

    If you're new, read all you can to learn from others. It saves time.

    Why did you post your question twice?
    You're never alone with schizophrenia.

    Seriously, aren't sure - I went back to a previous thread and came back and possibly re-submitted by mistake.
