  1. Hi!
I have just purchased a shuttle sv25 to use as a htpc in my livingroom. The thing is that my graphics board (S3 savage 4) only supports resolutions of 800x600 or 640x480 via tv-out. This leads to a black frame around the image on my tv screen and that is something that is totally unacceptable. I know that the graphics card is capable of displaying real fullscreen tv (720x576) but that is in linux. Unfortunatley the motherboard doesn't have any agp port so i can't change graphicsboard.

Are there any software like tv-tool that works on S3 cards? Or hacked drivers that supports this?

    Regards

    /Peter

  2. I am also interested in software that provides overscanning since the graphics board doesn't support that either...

Ok i admit I know nothing about this gfx card... BUT...most normal TV-outs are based on the TV format required (ie PAL at 576 or NTSC at 480) the resolutions quoted are usually the MONITOR RESOLUTION to be converted and NOT the TV-OUT resolution.....

..for instance, if your MONITOR resolution is set at 800 X 600 then it should be converted to (in the case of PAL) to 576 scan (thats vertical res in pc terms)....but if playing a DVD at 720 X 576 (PAL DVD res) you WILL get a border as the MONITOR res is 800 X 600...note the difference.

To get round this, (again I know nothing about this gfx card's TV -out) you select from Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/somewhere in here, the FULL SCREEN VIDEO option.

If that isnt available have you tried using Zoomplayer (which is why I love this player) to ZOOM up the video files PC resolution to 800 X 600?

Note. there is ALWAYS a small LOSS at the TV end somewhere as pc pixels ARE NOT directly proportional to TV pixels (TV pixels are NOT square so you will get a small border at the top and bottom of the TV picture and/or a cropped horizontal. The way round this is to Zoom slightly higher than required and crop the horizontral edges..............if you have a WIDESCREEN TV this can be done at the TV end by the Zoom or 16:9 options.

Get ZOOMPLAYER and try, its FREE for none DVD files.

PS. DVD files ARE overscanned the visible horizontal is 704 (at a TV) not 720 as presumed.
