  1. Greetings.

I have a Sony TRV530 D8 camcorder that has a firewire port for transferring video. I'd like to be able to do some basic editing.

I'd like to be able to make (S)VCD disks, but not sure which firewire card to get.

I'm looking at the Pinnacle Studio DV card .. is there any reason I shouldn't get this? Is there a better "low end" solution?

Can I use the supplied cable or should I get a Monster cable?

    Thanks!

  2. yep .the pinnacle studio Dv is by far the best editing solution for starters.

comes with firewire card and great software. no need to buy the 'monster' cables. the supplied cable does fine.

you stream in the camera images and do editing in studiodv . stream out to avi file. Studio dv also has mpeg stream out so you can make vcd and svcd also i believe ,

or you just run your created avi file trough tmpgenc or any other mpeg encoder for that part and burn it with Nero or VideoPack to a disk . and you're done.

  3. I am currently using the Pinnacle Firewire Card that came with Pinacle Studio DV 7. I am a newbie at all of this - like you - but I have been able to capture some of my DV video from my Sony DCR-TRV11 and have not experienced any trouble whatsoever with the card. I have not really messed with any of the settings such as frame rate, etc. that much but I did make a vcd and the quality was pretty good. I would definitely reccomend the software if you are a newbie to editing. It is not very expensive (compared to other programs such as Premier 6) and it is the easiest software I have ever encountered. The ease of the program was a God-Send after trying to figure out Premier 6 (I never did figure it out). Anyways, I don't have any experience with any other cards so I can not really tell you what you should buy - I just thought you would like to hear from someone who has used the one you are considering (even though not that much).
    Good Luck.

  4. If you want to take a look at the software that comes with it - go to http://www.pinnaclesys.com and find the Studio DV 7 page (by selecting products at the top), click "Overview" in the menu on the left-hand side, a menu will drop under it - select "View Demo". It is a pretty good video describing the features of Studio 7 - In case you wanted to know.
    Hope this helps.
