    A straight AC3 component for encoding and decoding that worked independent of DivX would be more useful. Still, there are alternatives with ffmpegX and VLC.

    is this the same as the AC3 Codec.component?
    i wonder because i have yet to see this component work!

    Hey man, i don't know. I'm on a PC, and was just trying to be considerate.

    I refuse to touch another Apple until they come through with that IIgs upgrade they promised.

    First you need DivX 5.1 which correctly load the AVI file into QuickTime. Once you have DivX 5.1 installed, if you are on MacOS X, drop "AC3 Codec.component" into /Library/QuickTime, or if you are on MacOS 8.x/9.x, drop "AC3 Codec" into your Extensions folder and restart.
    It is. Its only for divx movies, works fine for that, but not for mpeg2 or .vobs

    I still have my IIgs, but the 3MHz processor plain sucks for video editing :P

    Yeah, the last time I ripped a DVD on my PowerBook 160, it took 32 days to reencode it.
