I have been told by several people (not in this forum), that it is possible to fit a movie onto a single cd-r and play it in a DVD player (not computer DVD player).
They claim that you convert the avi file to MPEG, and then convert to VCD, and it will fit on a single cd.
I don't believe this is possible, but I thought I would check here first, to see if anyone has tried this.

  2. Its possible, will work in some players (not in mine, premature end of movie) and is wasted time, VCD is already bad enough quality as it is when using 2 cds per movie.

Before i bought my dvd burner i experimented with putting as much as i can on 1 cd and i got a 110 minute movie using tmpgenc at mpeg2 at 352x480 cq quality 70 with audio 128 kbps and the quality was very decent.Works best on widescreen but the file size is unpredictable.

    Movie on one VCD guide.

If you use 2-pass VBR then the size is predictable and the quality is better, but you need to test it on your player to see if it works.

2 pass variable is better in some cases but cq can give you smaller file with just as good quality,it just depends on the source.

I didn't mean to imply that 2-pass was better quality than CQ, I meant that it's better than CBR (like in the guide I linked).

Ok,just looked that way,i rarely use cbr,vbr is always better when trying to reduce file size without guessing.
