    Hi,
Has anyone had luck installing and using VideoPack 4 and WinOnCD 3.8 PE on Windows XP?
On Monday I got official release of WinXP and installed it on my computer. Then I installed VP4. Installation went OK. But when I try to run VP4, XP crashes and computer reboots by itself. I had to uninstall it. And when I rebooted, XP couldn't boot at all, complaining about missing file in \windows\system32 folder; so I had to use recovery utility to restore last known good configuration.
Then I installed WinOnCD 3.8 PE. Installation went ok, told me to reboot. After I rebooted, I ran the program. It gave me two error messages, but opened up. When I checked for CD recorder, nothing was there. Then I installed drivers, downloaded from Roxio site, for my Sony CRX-160A drive and rebooted. After reboot WinXP told me that CD-R application and drivers can cause damage to XP and disabled them. So I uninstalled WinOnCD.
    Comments are appreciated.
    Thanks.

  3. I had this problem myself with WinonCd,and because Roxio appear to have nothing more to do with WinOncd ie no driver updates I thought to myself thats the end of that programme:
But by a stroke of luck I installed Easy cd Creator which has Direct CD incorporated into it,when I rebooted WinOnCd worked a treat. The irony is I hate Easy CD CREATOR, but if it worked for me it may very well work for you.

I have got WinOnCD 3.8 PE working. There is a patch at: http://www.winhelpline.com/download/download.php?id=336 The instructions are in german, but basically you have to install WinOnCD, copy the files into the place it says, and then restart. DO NOT restart until you have copied the files.

It works fine, but Direct CD 5, and BackMeUp still won't work.

Follow the instructions below to download the zip file. I think it is called winoncd.zip (not sure). It is only a few K.

    Install WinOnCD 3.8PE. Don't reboot.

Copy the two driver files into [windowsxpdirectory]\system32\drivers

(on my computer this would be E:\windows\system32\drivers)

    Reboot.

Everything should work. Well, actually the CD emulator doesn't work.

It is probably worth making a restore point with System Restore on XP before you do any of this so that you can recover if things go wrong.

http://babel.altavista.com did a reasonable job at translating the readme file for me.

    Thanks a lot everybody.
I got WinOnCD to work on XP.
VP4 still doesn't work. But it is ok.
I learned how to author VCD with XML, VCDImager and VCDEasy. It is the best way.
You can do multiple menus, seemless chapters and so on.

    Thanks again.
