You make a VCD compatible mpeg with TMPGEnc then you author your VCD creating menus and chapters with VCDEasy. Look 'em up in the guides.

I found this in about 10 seconds

Alright, I'm gonna try to put this to bed...

#1--You DON'T make VCD's or SVCD's with TMPGEnc, you just encode video (& audio) files into (S)VCD-ready MPEG's with it.

#2--Then you take them into an authoring app. This is where the menuing and chaptering come into play. One of the best for (S)VCD's is VCDEasy. There are others; look around. There are others for DVD, as well.

#3--Once it's authored, it usually is ready to burn (either from a folder w/ files, or from a disc image file) onto disc. Other apps for this (Nero, RNM, etc.)

    #4--Sometimes #2 and #3 are combined into 1 app, sometimes #1, #2, and #3. Sometimes, they're all independent.

#5--Your problems with installing and uninstalling are tangential to these other issues. If you can't even download DirectX update correctly, your system is truly F@#ked up!

#6--Sounds like you need to start from scratch. Backup your drive, wipe it clean, re-install the OS, and then reinstall (only) the multimedia apps you'll actually need.

#7--Don't do that unless you are very comfortable with the process. If you aren't, convince a friend who is, to do it. Bribe 'em (etc.).

#8--Then, don't mess with the setup once it's ok. The recommended software here does work, there's just other things interfering with 'em.

#9--Read up more about how this all works. Buy DVD DeMystified, or Video DeMystified, etc. The guides to the left have links to lots of good info.

#10--If you're still in trouble, cut your losses, skip it and buy a Panasonic DVD-Recorder or something.

#11--Don't do anything until you've read all these items! (A couple of times). Reminds me of that phrase about "a little bit of knowledge being a dangerous thing".

    Good luck,
    Scott

#12--(Checking to see if you're reading them all) HINT: Most folks here like it better when the same question(s) don't keep getting re-asked--especially when they have been thoroughly answered already
