  2. I don't think that one particular burner is better than another for the purposes of burner VCDs. All modern burners should be able to burn VCDs just fine. Other features are probably more important (e.g., burn-proof technologies, speed, etc.)

Sefy recently posted a guide to CD-RW burners (link on main page of VCDHelp.com). You should probably start there.

  4. Nero

I'll be trying TCSV soon, though. Can't beat the price.

  5. Nero is definitely not the best VCD burning/authoring proggy in my books. I rank it only one notch above Easy CD Creator.

For simple VCD structures (i.e., no menus, simple multitrack), Nero or WinOnCD are fine... and I tend to have a better opinion of WinOnCD. You could also use VCDImager (with VCDImagerGUI -- the old one) and CDRWin, CDRDAO or Fireburner.

For anything with a degree of authoring, Nero is on the bottom of the list as its menu implementation is poor and it doesn't even author them correctly.

VCD Toolkit and VideoPack4 can both author VCDs. VideoPack4 can also burn them (or you could use WinOnCD to burn the image).

I-Author can author SVCDs and you will need Easy CD Creator to burn the images (though if you search the forums, you can convert the CIF images into CUE/BIN type images).

VCDImager can author very complex VCD and SVCDs to CUE/BIN type images. It is also freeware. To burn these the best proggies are CDRWin, CDRDAO and Fireburner. CDRDAO is open source and freeware. There is a Win32 GUI available for it called "XDuplicator" that works quite well.
