  1. I am tired of waiting for my favorite TV show to be put onto DVD, so I want to do it myself. I am downloading the episodes (they are in both AVI and MPG formats) and I want to convert them and author DVDs. My question is, what's the best program to do this with? I tried using TMPEG and it took over 12 hours to encode one episode. There's got to be something faster.

    It's your settings.

I ahve a LOT of tv eps on DVDR, my wife works second shift.

First off, don't bother with D1 resolution unless you have a 35" TV.

I use either 352x480 interlaced or 352x240 progressive. It's better than VHS quality (I've tested with a new VCR that's 4-head and fairly good brand). TMPGEnc does just fine. Do a search on TMPGEnc settings, sure you have yours set to too high a qaulity, which doesnt' do anything but increase encoding time.

  3. ok, I changed my settings, what was happening, was that it was making one episode fill the entire disk, so it was converting a 200 meg ep to over a gig. So I lowered the quality to about 600 meg and now it finnishes in about 20 mins Thanks.
