Right now I am just using Moviemaker to capture in WMV format which I believe is compressed then go to MPG and then to VCD to a burned CD.

Should I capture using WinDV or DVIO to capture as AVI first and then go to VCD???

    Will I preserve more quality???

    Thanks

You should capture via FIREWIRE aka IEEE 1390 aka i.link

This will copy the digital A/V from your digital cam to your computer. The Audio and Video is on tape in digital format. This method of "capture" simply copies that data to the comptuer's HDD

    Best method there is.

For this you can use a variesty of programs such as DVIO

    P.S.
You have your choice of DV TYPE 1 or DV TYPE 2 and usually DV TYPE 2 is easier to deal with as more editing/processing programs seem to work with it.
